Dr. Beauman has worked with all levels of education. She started her career as a high school home economics teacher. Later while at the State Department of Education in Illinois she worked with all levels of CTE education. This included working with middle schools, high schools, regional offices of education, community colleges, and universities, both public and private. In addition she worked with Community Based Organizations, Criminal Offender Programs, and the department of Rehabilitation services. EMPLOYMENT HISTORYCurrent Employment: Project Director, Southern Illinois University, Illinois Mathematics, Science and Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Career Cluster Initiative. In addition, I am providing consulting services in Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and Iowa for Career Cluster implementation. June 2004-August 2006: Project Director for the statewide implementation of the National Health Science Cluster and Transportation, Distribution and Logistics clusters in Illinois. Under the direction of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development, I designed, developed and implemented a statewide model for these clusters.. This included creating statewide advisory groups, conducting multiple focus groups, creating communication strategies, piloting the programs and going to full scale implementation. March 2002- June 2004: Project director for the National Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Career Cluster Initiative. As such, I directed the design, development, testing and implementation of the Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Cluster in community colleges and secondary schools across the country for the United States Department of Education and the United States Department of Transportation., February 1995-until retirement March 2002: State Director of Career and Technical Education. As State Director of CTE for Illinois I worked with postsecondary and secondary educators, business partners and others in connecting education to workforce preparation. More specifically, I was responsible for post secondary CTE program approval, Tech Prep, articulation between secondary and post-secondary education, post secondary occupational skill standards development, teacher internships and other programs. This work included annually providing over fifty million dollars to support these programs. January 1, 1987 - February 1995: Manager of Career Technical Education Program Improvement Division. I managed and supervised a team of professional staff who were responsible for identifying, planning, developing, monitoring, and evaluating program improvement activities in post secondary and secondary institutions related to sex equity, single parents, criminal offenders, guidance, community based organizations, research, professional and curriculum development. May 1, 1984 – January 1, 1987: Manager of Consultant Services Division. I was responsible for program approval and technical assistance for all career clusters. November 1, 1981 – May 1, 1984: Assistant Manager, Program Approval and Evaluation. I was responsible for planning, organizing, monitoring and managing annual on-site statewide evaluations of post secondary and secondary CTE programs. May, 1980 – November 1, 1981: Program Manager, Research and Development. I was responsible for managing and monitoring research and development projects and inservice activity applications from post secondary and secondary education institutions. Specific activities included programmatic consultation and fiscal monitoring of projects that totaled a million dollars. I also developed requests for proposals, reviewed and approved project contracts and developed research and development program priorities. 1979 – 1980: Administrative intern to the State Director of Career Technical Education in Illinois. 1970 – 1979: Cooperative Work Experience Program Coordinator, Mt. Vernon Area Career Center, Mt. Vernon, Illinois. My responsibilities included strengthening and improving relations with the business community, organizing and working with advisory committees to add depth to the scope and sequence of programs, placing students in approved job stations, making on-the-job visitations, conducting related classes, providing post high school placement for graduating students and conducting one and five year follow-up studies.
